POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State women's golf opened the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Friday at Sunbrook GC in St. George, Utah, posting a team score of 329 (+57) through Round 1 to sit tied for ninth in the nine-team field. The Bengals face a 35-stroke deficit to first-place Stetson heading into Round 2, which is scheduled for Saturday morning on the Blackrock/The Pointe layout at 5,914 yards.
Andrea Chin led the Idaho State lineup with an 80 (+8), finishing tied for 34th in the individual standings. Chin's round set the tone for the Bengals, as she posted the team's most competitive score on the par-72 course and gave Idaho State its strongest counting contribution of the day.
Kaylie Parola followed with an 82 (+10), placing her tied for 42nd, while Izzy Hassebrock carded an 83 (+11) to finish tied for 44th. The back nine proved to be a challenge across the roster, with the layout's second nine playing slightly longer than the front at 2,928 yards.
Avery Bayer rounded out the four counting scores with an 84 (+12), finishing tied for 46th. Lauren Aasand also posted an 84 (+12) for the Bengals in the non-counting fifth position. Idaho State will need a strong second round to climb the leaderboard before the tournament concludes following Round 3.
