Bengals Close Fall with Runner-Up Finish at Big O Classic

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's golf capped off a strong fall season with a second-place team finish at the Big O Classic, held Oct. 13–14 at Oak Hills Country Club. The Bengals posted rounds of 314, 304, and 302 for a 54-hole total of 920 (+56), marking the fifth-lowest tournament score in program history.

Idaho State improved in each round on the challenging par-72, 6,107-yard course, finishing behind only host Omaha (+15) in a nine-team field. Three Bengals placed inside the top 10 individually, all recording career-best finishes to close out the fall schedule.

Junior Andrea Chin led the way with a three-round total of 225 (+9) to tie for fourth overall, her second top-five finish of the season. Izzy Hassebrock followed with a 229 (+13) to finish ninth, while Kaylie Parola shot 232 (+16) to tie for 10th. Lauren Aasand (240, +24) placed 22nd, and both Avery Bayer (244, +28) and Venus Yong (244, +28) tied for 26th as all six Bengals finished in the top half of the leaderboard.

"The team played three consistent rounds of golf on a challenging Oak Hills course, improving each round," said Head Coach Todd Loveland. "With three players finishing in the top 10, it builds a lot of confidence going into offseason training to prepare for the spring. I'm excited about the trajectory this team is on."


Tournament Format

The Big O Classic was hosted by the University of Nebraska Omaha at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Nebraska. The par-72 course played at 6,107 yards for the event. Teams competed in 36 holes on Monday, followed by a final 18 holes Tuesday.

Bengal Bites

  • Idaho State's 920 total marked the fifth-lowest 54-hole team score in program history.

Fall Season Recap

Idaho State opened the 2025 fall season at the Wolverine Invitational in Saratoga Springs, Utah, posting a 54-hole total of 911 (+58) to start the year on a strong note. Sophomore Avery Bayer led the Bengals with a career-best 227 (+11), while Kaylie Parola's Round 2 71 tied for one of the lowest rounds in program history. The team combined for 21 birdies and showed consistency across the lineup on the par-72 TalonsCove layout.

The Bengals carried that momentum into a record-breaking week at the MSU Intercollegiate in Bozeman, where Idaho State's 886 (+22) shattered the previous school record by 15 strokes. The team also set new program marks for 18-hole (291) and 36-hole (584) scoring on its way to a sixth-place finish. Both Parola and Andrea Chin tied for 15th at 219 (+3), while three Bengals placed inside the top 25 overall.

At the EWU Kalispel Invitational in Spokane, the Bengals once again improved in every round, finishing 11th out of 14 teams at 915 (+51) and edging Big Sky rival Portland State by one stroke. Andrea Chin paced the lineup with a 221 (+5) for 12th place, and the team closed with its best round of the tournament at 302.

Idaho State followed with a fourth-place finish at the UM Sun Mountain Intercollegiate in Missoula, highlighted by a final-round 298, the lowest of the tournament. Izzy Hassebrock opened with a 68, tied for the second-lowest round in school history, while Chin (T9, +5) and Hassebrock (T12, +7) both earned top-15 finishes as the Bengals posted a total of 904 (+40).

Across five tournaments, Idaho State produced three of the top five team scores in program history, tallied 91 birdies and three eagles, and notched eight individual top-15 finishes. The Bengals' consistent progression and scoring depth marked one of the most successful fall seasons in school history and sets the stage for continued growth this spring.
