White, Strand Top List of Men’s Track and Field All-Academics

Seniors Trevor White and Eric Strand earn their fourth all-academic honors

Senior Trevor White caps his career at ISU with four all-academic honors as well as being named a Big Sky Scholar.
OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced Monday that 13 men from the ISU track and field team have earned spring all-academic honors. Two of those men, seniors Trevor White and Eric Strand, have earned the fourth all-academic honor of their careers. White caps his career with an all-academic nod every year of his track and field tenure as well as being named a Big Sky Scholar earlier this year.

The other nominees for the spring season include: senior Cody Jenkins (nursing), juniors Justin Critser-Lucas (sport management), Matt O'Farrell (chemistry), Mike O'Farrell (chemistry), Thomas Thiel (health science) and Garrett Wood (secondary education), sophomores Andy Lish (philosophy) and Derek Puckett (philosophy) as well as freshmen Christoph Lange (mechanical engineering), Colin Riley (undecided) and Jacob Zarpetine (radiographic science).

Chemistry major Mike O'Farrell is earning the third all-academic honor of his career while Jenkins, Lish, Matt O'Farrell and Puckett are earning their second all-academic honor.

Many of this season's all-academic honorees excelled both academically and athletically. Thiel, Jenkins, Strand, Riley and Lish all earned all-conference honors. Lange finished just one position out of earning all-conference honors with a fourth-place finish in the decathlon tallying a career best 6,860 points. Critser-Lucas qualified for the NCAA Regional in the high jump.

The men's track and field team has been traditionally strong academically with eight honorees in 2011, 14 in 2010, nine in 2009 and seven in 2008. This season the squad is tied for the second-most individuals earning all-academic honors from around the conference. Montana State led the men's track and field category this year with 15 and ISU tied with Eastern Washington with 13.

To be eligible for the honor a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions. 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the most recently completed term. 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky Institution.
