Bengals Conclude Washington State Open

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State track and field wrapped up the final day of the Washington State Open at The Podium in Spokane.

"This weekend we saw a majority of the Big Sky Conference schools and we got a look at where we match up with those schools," remarked Director of Track and Field Hillary Merkley. "This weekend there were some real learning opportunities for us as a whole team and we have some refining to do the next couple of weeks before we head into the Indoor Championships."

In the men's pole vault invite, Ekhart Van Der Watt earned his second podium of the season, finishing third with a vault of 4.88m (16-0).

The day's track events started with the women's 60mH. Kydnall Martin beat out a field of 43 runners to qualify for the race with a time of 8.80 seconds.

Zack Ramos earned another podium spot in the men's shot put. On his fourth throw of the day, Ramos launched his shot 17.78m (58-4) finishing 2nd out of field of 30 throwers. Axel Tirado-Sanchez and Ryan Spaeth also picked up top-10 finishes in the event.

Following her 5000m run the day before, Cassandra Vasquez set a new personal best in the 3000m running a time of 10:14.59.

Cade Smith followed up his impressive 5000m with a 6th place finish in the 3000m with a PR time of 8:32.11, just off of another ISU top-10 mark.

The Bengals have one more meet in Bozeman, Mont., Feb 10-11 before heading to Moscow for the 2023 Big Sky Conference Indoor track and field Championships.
