POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State track and field displayed its skill in front of the home crowd at Davis and Bartz field Friday, day one of the 2023 Bengal Invitational.
The Day started with the men's and women's hammer throw at Bartz field. On the men's side, Axel Tirado-Sanchez finished 5th with a throw of 52.56m (172-05). Sergio Garcia-Jimenez followed throwing 51.59m (169-03).
The women's hammer throwers showed out at the home meet with three Bengals in the finals flight all setting new PRs.
Destinee Rose-Haas picked up another win in the event. The Bengal smashed her personal best in the event with a throw of 62.68m (205-07). The mark is just four feet shy of the all-time ISU record and 9th best all-time in the Big Sky Conference.
Sarah Wilensky followed in second with a personal best throw of 57.21m (187-08). The throw moves Wilensky up to 4th all-time in the ISU record book.
Rounding out the finals flight, Rachael Dyck threw the 9th-best hammer in ISU history, 51.94m (170-05), also special with-it being Dyck's birthday.
Continuing with the field events, Ekhardt Van Der Watt picked up a podium finish in the men's pole vault. Van Der Watt cleared 4.96m (16-3.25) to finish third in the event.
Presley Timmons finished fourth in the 1500m finals Friday afternoon. Competing against a field of 27, Timmons crossed the line in 4:35.91.
Kylee Dimick finished 8th in the women's long jump Friday afternoon. On her fourth jump of the day, Dimick soared 5.49 (18-00.25), a new personal best.
Friday Preliminaries
Friday's preliminaries started with the men's and women's 110 and 100m Hurdles.
Zachary Cox qualified for tomorrow's 110mH finals with the best qualifying time Friday afternoon of
Seconds.
Kyndal Martin qualified for three finals on Saturday. First, in the 100mH, Martin ran a time of 13.90 seconds, 2nd fastest in the preliminary heats. Martin then qualified for the 100m final with a time of 12.21 seconds, a new personal best. Finally, in the 400mH, Martin ran a 1:01.62 to qualify for tomorrow's final.
Bengal freshman Khutsisa Rampete qualified for Saturday's final in the 100m dash. Rampete ran the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 10.75 seconds, a new personal best. Rampete then came back to qualify for the 200m finals with a time of 21.58 seconds also a new personal best.
Niklas Uth set a new personal best qualifying for Saturday's 400mH final. The Bengal crossed the line in 53.06 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in the Big Sky Conference this season.
Bengal Invitational Day Two
Day two of the 2023 Bengal Invitational starts at 10:30 AM at Davis Field as we honor our 2023 senior class. Come out and support the Bengals that have worked to make our program better over their time in the Orange and Black.
Events begin at 11:00 AM with the start of the Discus and the 4x100 Relays.
