Pocatello, ID - It was a good start for Idaho State Track and Field teams in the opening day of the Bengal Invitational Meet at the university's Davis Field on Friday with various student-athletes showing class in their events.
The Bengals started the day with senior
Kyndal Martin qualifying to the final of the Women 100 Meter hurdle by equaling her season's best time of 13.57. She also qualified for the final with colleague Jossie Settle who finished with a 14.14 time.
Also, in the Women 200 Meter Prelims, duo
Mikaela Hill and
Sage Wood secured qualifications to the final with personal records of 24.59 and 24.99 respectively. Mikaela broke her previous season's best of 24.89 to become the 8
th best in Idaho State's history while Sage beat her 25.63 season's best.
It did not end there for Hill who also secured qualification into the 100m final with a time of 11.94.
The track events continued to produce good results for the women's teams as
Tenleigh Smith ended the meet in the 400m prelims with a personal record of 56.43 to secure qualification for the final.
Meanwhile, the Idaho State men's team was not left behind.
Braxton Hurst made his presence felt in the men's 400m prelims when he earned a personal record time of 48.33 to qualify for the final on Saturday, April 27. The time recorded beat his former season best of 48.54.
South African sprinter,
Khutsisa Rampete won his men's 100m heat with a time of 10.48 to qualify. He continued with another stellar performance in the 200m when he ran 21.34 to secure qualification.
In the men 110m hurdles,
Alex Conner ran a time of 14.79 to reach the final while
Zachary Cox and
Niklas Uth finished first and second in the 400m hurdles with times of 54.07 and 54.30 respectively.
It was a personal record for Dallin Bird in the men 1 mile event after earning a 4:13.44 time to finish third and make the final. Overall, the Bengals gave a good account of themselves going into Saturday's final which is expected to commence at exactly 11am at ISU's Davis Field.
Field events such as discus, triple jump, shot put, high jump and pole vault in both men and women categories will start Saturday's meet at 11am before the various running events commence. Fans are encouraged to get to Davis Field early for the senior day ceremony at 10:30am, where twenty-four amazing athletes will be recognized for their careers and contributions to ISU.
