Ogden, UT - Outdoor Season is in full swing as Idaho State Track and Field has officially kicked off week 3 at the Weber Spring Open. One thing that was apparent today that the Bengals didn't have to deal with during the indoor season: the weather.
On a crisp day in Ogden, UT, with temperatures reaching as low as 32°, the elements didn't show any favor towards ISU, or anyone else for that matter.
But if you watched Kyndal Martin, you'd have remarked that she was undeterred by the brisk Utah weather. Today, the senior blew past the competition at the Chuck Hislop track en route to setting a new school record in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.74 seconds. This time gave Martin her first outdoor school record as well as her seventh set in 2024.Â
Bengals head coach Hillary Merkley said of Martin's record that it was "something that she has been working towards for a long time. In the hail, rain, cold, and snow she got in and finally broke the school record."
Martin was joined by other ISU athletes who bared the daring elements to finish atop the competition in Ogden. Sarah    Wilensky picked up a first-place finish in the hammer throw for the women with a mark of 56.41m (185' 0.75"). Kait Ward and Rachael Dyck also qualified for the finals in the event with distances of 49.48m (162'4") and 47.52m (155'11")
Kapri Sylvester took home the top spot in the high jump as one of two athletes on the day with a height of 1.64m (5'4.5"). Sylvester attained this mark in fewer attempts to secure the W. Back on the track, Zachary Cox was the top finisher in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.16 seconds.
From Merkley: "I saw some grit and even some fun coming through in our Bengals today and that was a highlight."Â
The Bengals are set to finish off the weekend tomorrow in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah before returning home to prepare for a series in California.
