POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State track and field team will compete in the 2018 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships, presented by Red Lion Hotels Corporation, May 8-11 in Moscow, Idaho.
Women
The Bengals will be sending three athletes to compete in the heptathlon. They are led by freshman
Ashley VanVleet, who goes in to the meet ranked number one in the Big Sky with a total score of 4,887 points. Junior
Shayla Henderson is ranked second with her season best of 4,837 while freshman
Brianna VanVleet is fifth with a total of 4,573.
Ashley VanVleet will also compete in the high jump where she is tied at fifth with freshman teammate
Ginger Nelson with a jump of 5' 5.75". Henderson will also be competing in the 400m hurdles where she is currently ranked fifth in the Big Sky with her time of 1:00.81.
Junior
Hannah Bartz will be competing in the long jump where her season best leap of 18' 10" has her seeded seventh. Freshman
Luisa Stroppel goes into the meet ranked fifth in the triple jump with her mark of 39' 1.25".
Freshman
Jessica Swannack will one of four Bengals competing in the pole vault, she has the seventh best height in the conference this season with a clearance of 12' 3.5". She will be joined by junior
Elizabeth Reichlinger and freshmen
Brooke Anger and
Sierra Kiser.
The throwers will be sending a large group led by juniors
Deziree Lipsett and
Taylor Clark. Lipsett is currently sixth in the Big Sky with her toss of 148' 2.5", while Clark's best of 148' 1" has her ranked seventh.
In the 10,000m, junior
Ashley Sondag will be joined by fellow junior
Samantha Johnston. Sondag currently sits in sixth with a time of 36:36.32 while Johnston is eighth with a time of 37:16.63.
The women's team also has the sixth ranked 4x400m relay team in the conference.
Men
Freshman
Tanner Conner will run the 110m hurdles where his season best time of 14.38 has him ranked third in the Big Sky.
Sophomores
Joseph Simmons and
Joseph Petty will both be running in the 5,000m and the 10,000m. Simmons is currently fourth in the 10,000m with a time of 30:13.31.
The throwers will be led by Junior
Trevor Jensen and Senior
Christian Brininger in the hammer throw. Jensen's throw of 186' 11 has him ranked fifth while Brininger is seventh with a throw of 181' 6".
Senior
Tim Ankenman goes into the decathlon ranked seventh with a total score of 5,999 points.
ISU men will also run the 4x100m and 4x400m relays where they are ranked eighth and seventh, respectively.
