POCATELLO, Idaho – Treyshon Malone won two Big Sky Conference titles and was named the men's conference MVP on the final day of the 2019 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Missoula, Mont.
"I'm excited and tired at the same time. It's been a long two days," said Malone. "We are there for a reason and that is to show everybody what Idaho State is about and what I'm about. We were going in with a positive mindset, supporting team mates along with it, and having fun with it. If you don't have fun, what's the point of being out there."
Malone picked up his first championship of the day when he ran a personal best time of 10.40 seconds in the 100m dash. The mark moves him to fourth all-time in the ISU record book. Tanner Conner finished second in the event, running a personal best time of 10.51 seconds. The time earned him the ninth fastest spot all-time in the ISU record book. Cory Mullanix finished seventh with a time of 10.80 seconds. Their efforts earned 20 points for the men's team total.
Malone won his second title of the day in the 200m, finishing the race in 21.18 seconds. Malone also competed in the long jump, the 110m hurdles, the 4x100 relay and on the men's 4x400Â relay team.
For his efforts over the course of the championship, Malone was awarded the Big Sky Conference Men's MVP award at the end of the meet. Malone is also the first Bengal men's track athlete to earn a double championship since Paul Hoffman in 2005 and the first Bengal MVP since 2016 when Deante Gaines won the award.
"I am so proud of both teams," said Head Coach Hillary Merkley. " They both put it all out there. We came up short in a couple areas and came out ahead in other areas. One thing is for sure, they fought like Bengals through four days of competition. ISU track and field is on the rise! I'm proud of this team and all they have accomplished."
