Bengals Head to Weber State for Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State Track and Field heads to the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships after a successful 2021 outdoor season. This spring records were broken, there were several personal records set, and many individual wins. The men's and women's team look to put everything together Wednesday, May 12 through Saturday, May 15, in Ogden, Utah.
 
The meet opens with the heptathlon and the decathlon at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. The men start off the competition with the 100m dash. The women follow with the 100m hurdles. The remaining events in the heptathlon and the decathlon finish up Thursday. The day l starts again at 10:00 a.m.
 
The rest of the team competes Friday, starting with the women's hammer at 11:00 a.m. and Saturday with the men's hammer at 9:30 a.m. The track events are slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The full schedule can be found, here.
 
Spectators will be able to attend the conference meet. Ticket  cost is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for youth/seniors and can be bought, here.

Conference Team
 
The 2021 outdoor track and field season saw school records broken, additions to the top ten performance list, newcomers succeeding, personal bests being set and several individual wins for the Bengals.
 
Men

At the conference meet, Idaho State will have three freshmen, Cade Ricks, Ethan Garrett, and Chase Gardom, competing in the decathlon. Garrett competed in this event twice this year in the Westmont meet and at BYU. He is looking to improve his score of 5527 which currently ranks 10th in the conference.
 
Treyshon Malone is back competing for the Bengals in the long jump, as well as in some sprinting events and  relays. He set the Idaho State school record in the long jump earlier this season with a jump of 25'11" and is also sitting at the top of the conference performance list with that jump. He is ranked 14th in the nation and sixth in the West Region.
 
In the high jump, Adam Elorrieta and Owen Mitchell, are looking to finish out the season with strong performances. Elorrieta jumped 6' 11.75" at the Westmont meet, which is second on the BSC performance list. Owen Mitchell jumped 6' 11.5" at the UVU invitational and is third on the performance list.
 
Josh Anderson and Tyler Valenzuela are competing in the pole vault this weekend. Valenzuela is currently ranked seventh after a jump of 15' 7" at the Weber State Twilight meet.
 
In the throws, Zack Ramos, Leo Finsterbusch, and Keegan Luker are looking to increase their personal records set this season. Ramos currently sits ninth in the shot with a mark of 54' 4.75" and eighth in the discus with a mark of 168'. Finsterbusch will compete in the hammer, discus, and shot put where he is ranked eighth (188' 11"), ninth (167' 3"), and 14th (52' 2.75"), respectively. Luker is also competing in all three events. His strongest is the shot put where he sits 12th in the Big Sky with a throw of 52' 6.5".
 
Kodee Vining, Cory Mullanix, Markos Huerta, Cal Duke, and Tanner Conner will be running in the sprints for the Bengals at the conference meet. Vining sits seventh in the conference in the 200m with a time of 21.59 seconds, which he earned at Utah State. 
 
Conner joined the team after the conclusion of the Spring football season, after running at the BYU Robison Invitational he is ranked eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.41 seconds. Duke is currently ranked fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.67 seconds, which he earned at the OSU High Performance meet.
 
On the distance side, Zak Montoya, Joe Simmons, and Garrett Condelario will be running in the long-distance races, 5,000m and 10,000m. Simmons is ranked ninth in the 10,000m (29:44.23) and Montoya is ranked 10th (29:51.23).
Collin Dylla and D'Artagnan Kilgore will run in the mid-distance races for the Bengals. Dylla ran his best time of the year in the 800m at the OSU High Performance meet. This time, 1:50.93, puts him seventh on the Big Sky performance list.
 
Women
 
The women  have Brianna VanVleet, Ashley VanVleet-Sturgis, and freshman Kaitlyn Neff competing in the heptathlon Wednesday and Thursday. VanVleet-Sturgis currently is ranked first in the hep with 5133 points. VanVleet sits at third with a score of 4967 points.
 
Kapri Orton third on the BSC performance list in the high jump with a jump of 5' 8". VanVleet and VanVleet-Sturgis are tied for ninth with a jump of 5' 5.25". VanVleet-Sturgis is also ranked ninth in the long jump (18' 9.25").
 
The Bengal pole vault group is very strong this year with Jessica Swannack, Brooke Anger, Louise Lallement, Sierra Kiser, and Lindsay Jones-Sagendorf. Swannack (12' 11.75"), Anger (12' 8"), and Lallement (12' 5.5") are placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively in the conference.
 
Elizabeth Butler, Kyndal Martin, and Megan Treasure  make up the sprinting group for Idaho State. Butler, who has had a very successful freshman season, is third overall in the 400m on the BSC performance list with a time of 54.76, which she ran at the Bengal Invitational. Kyndal Martin is fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:02.28) and 12th in the 100m hurdles (14.65).
 
On the throws side, Kylie Greenwell, Madi Cicierski, Skyla Liava'a, Alyssa Gorrell, Sarah Wilensky, Rachael Dyck, and Symphony Fike are competing for the Bengals. Greenwell  sits sixth in the hammer with a throw of 177' 7" and Wilensky set her personal best of 166' 4" at the Weber State Twilight meet.
 
Cicierski will compete in  the hammer and discus. She is eighth in the discus on the Big Sky Performance list with a mark of 150'. Dyck will  throw the discus at the conference meet. She is ranked 13th with a throw of 140' 11". Gorrell and Liava'a will compete in the shot put. Gorrell sits at 13th with a throw of 43' 0.25", which she earned at the OSU Performance Meet.
 
The women have a strong distance group competing at conference. Laura Alicke and Katie Weedn are placed seventh (35:42.33) and ninth (35:58.15), respectively, on the BSC performance list in the 10,000m.
In the 3000m Steeplechase, Madi Kenyon, Molly Olsen, Haven Lambrite, and Keely Wolf will run for the Bengals. Kenyon and Olsen are placed ninth (10:44.11) and 10th (10:50.71), respectively on the conference performance list. Wolfe currently sits in 13th with a time of 11:12.83.
 
For the mid-distance runners Mary Kate Marshall, Presley Timmons, and Allison Teemant-Radmall are competing in the 800m. Timmons currently ranks sixth with a time of 2:12.82. Marshall follows in eighth with a time of 2:13.26. Both women earned these season bests at the OSU High Performance meet.
