Pocatello, ID - As the "Veteran Voice of the Octagon" Bruce Buffer is known to say: It's time.
The 2024 indoor slate has featured no shortage of excitement for Idaho State Track and Field and, in fact, the only thing seemingly missing this year has been time to breathe between celebrations of momentous occasions for the Bengals.Â
For the Big Sky Conference, this weekend serves as the main event necessitating Buffer's famous quote, as Idaho State is set to return to a familiar venue, The Podium in Spokane, WA, for the annual indoor championships running from Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 22-24.
All ten teams will represent the conference in Spokane, culminating in a loaded competition for a Bengal squad that has proven their merit against the best of the best during an indoor season featuring highlight after highlight. The experience of Kyndal Martin, Presley Timmons, Axel Tirado-Sanchez, and Zachary Cox have been strong and steady presences for the Orange and Black, while Josie Settle, Brielle Davis, Alex Conner, and Seth Babbel have highlighted an electric group of underclassmen adding exciting performances to their young careers.
All three days of the meet will be broadcast on ESPN+, and more details can be found below.
Rising the Ranks
The Bengal women have repeated at #3 in the Big Sky for the second straight week in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) polls, with Northern Arizona and Montana State occupying the first and second slots, respectively. The men's team also held their spot in sixth with no competition this past weekend for ISU.Â
Rewriting the Record Books
This has been an indoor season unlike any other in recent memory for Idaho State, as in just five meets to date, eight school records have been set. Kyndal Martin has set the all-time mark in the 60m Hurdles three times, as well as the 55mH from the Weber State Invitational. Axel Tirado-Sanchez has set the record in the weight throw twice this year, Presley Timmons now holds the ISU-best time in the 800m, and Brielle Davis now holds the all-time height in the pole vault.
On top of the record-setting performances, the Bengal men and women have combined to set twenty-five marks to either enter the top-10 or improve their standing on the list and, last but not least, these five competitions have seen eighty-five total personal bests.
