Pocatello, ID - The Idaho State Track and Field team returned to action in full at a pair of meets, the Utah Valley Invitational in Orem and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA. Big Sky, Pac-12, and Big 12 talent were among the groups that ISU held their own with this past weekend.Â
Despite only being a one day meet, the UVU Invite was packed with talent from start to finish, with the distance runners and throwers making a big statement for the Bengals in week 2. The top finish of the day in Orem went to freshman Brody Burch, who took home a first place finish in the 800m with a PR time of 1:53.28. On the women's side, freshman Alexis Brauer had a highlight performance for her young career in the 800m. Her time of 2:20.95 places her at 8th all-time in school history.
For the throwers, Sergio Garciz Jimenez was a standout for ISU, with a new PR of 53.88m (176'9") in the hammer throw, which now places him at 10th all-time in school history
Over at Stanford, the Bengals were well represented by Axel Tirado-Sanchez in the discus. He finished with a second place mark of 52.75m (173'1"), the highest on the weekend for any non-P5/G5 athlete. Zachary Cox began the outdoor campaign with a fifth place time of 14.34 in the 110mH prelims, leaving a lot to look forward to for the rest of the outdoor season.
Up next, the Bengals are set to compete in their first meet as a full squad, heading to the Utah/Weber State Spring Open from April 5-6. Per it's name, the meet is being hosted by both Weber State and Utah, with the first day taking place at the home of the former in Ogden. Day 2 will commence in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah.
