Bryan Clay Invitational – Azusa, CA (Day 1 & Day 2)
The Bryan Clay Invitational saw a mix of stellar performances from several athletes over the first two days of competition. The meet brought together powerhouse teams from across the country, including Washington, UCLA, Tennessee, Florida, and many others, providing a high level of competition for the athletes.
Men's 10,000m:
- Seth Babbel delivered an outstanding performance in the 10,000m, setting a PR of 29:09.21 and finishing in 4th place overall. This time not only earned him a top finish but also marked a significant milestone as he now holds the school record in the event, surpassing the previous record by 14 seconds—a mark set before Seth was born. This performance also represents Seth's second school record after setting the 5000m record during the indoor season in February, showcasing his versatility and strength across different distances. His impressive outdoor performance cements his place as one of the top distance runners in ISU history.
Women's 10,000m:
- Cassandra Vasquez also competed strongly in the 10,000m, finishing 12th place with a time of 35:18.10, out of a field of 65 runners.
Women's 800m:
- The 800m saw two impressive performances, with Hailey Renzello taking the spotlight by running a PR of 2:09.54, placing 3rd all-time in school history. She was just 0.01 seconds off from the second-place mark in school history as she continues to shine in her stellar freshman campaign. Alongside her, Natalya Babcock ran a strong PR of 2:17.73.
Women's 5000m:
- Olivia Kendell had an excellent run in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 17:10.92, a PR by 26 seconds, which now ranks her 6th all-time in school history.
Pacific Coast Invitational – Long Beach, CA
The Pacific Coast Invitational saw some remarkable achievements from ISU athletes as well, with strong showings in multiple events, particularly in the throws and jumps.
Men's Discus Throw:
- Jay Wadley had a standout performance in the discus, throwing a 56.25m (184' 6"), securing a 4th place finish and setting his second PR of the season. Not only did this mark a personal best for Wadley, but it also placed him 2nd all-time in school history in the event. Wadley has been outstanding, setting three new career bests in the past two weeks.
Women's Discus Throw:
In an impressive coaching milestone, Assistant Coach
Marcia Mecklenburg saw
6 women surpass the
140' mark in the discus throw, the most by any coach in ISU history, demonstrating the depth of talent in the program.
Women's Long Jump:
- Kaila Mederios had a solid showing in the long jump with a leap of 5.73m (18' 9.75"), setting a new PR and continuing to develop as a key contributor in the field events.
Women's Shot Put:
- Megan Moore also reached a personal best in the shot put, recording a throw of 13.76m (45' 1.75"), placing her 9th all-time in school history. This performance adds to the growing list of strong performances in ISU's throwing events.
