Bengal Track and Field Prepared and Ready for Big Sky Outdoor Championships

POCATELLO, Idaho – After a season of work and preparation, the Idaho State Bengals are set to take on the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year is hosted by Montana State University in Bozeman, MT., and the championship runs from Wednesday, May 8th through Saturday, May 11th.

The meet will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live results will be available throughout the event.

At the beginning of the season, in the Outdoor Track and Field coaches' poll, the Bengal women were selected to finish third in the Big Sky with 74 votes. The men were tabbed for sixth place receiving 48 votes from the league's coaches.

Coming into the tournament, the Bengals have two of the better sprinters in the conference in Khutsisa Rampete and Mikaela Hill.

In the men's 100m, Rampete ranks third in the Big Sky with a time of 10.51 seconds that he ran at the 2024 Bengal Invitational. Hill comes into the championship with the 10th-best 100m of the year on the women's side with a run of 11.94 seconds that she had also at the Bengal Invitational.

 In the mid-distance, Presley Timmons is looking to follow up her podium finish at the indoor championships in the 800m. Timmons ran the 7th-fastest 800m in the conference at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 2:10.22.

The Bengal hurdlers have lit up the track all season long. Kyndal Martin leads the group with the 2nd-best mark in the Big Sky this season of 13.61 seconds in the 100mH at the Aggie Invitational. In the 400mH, Martin also ranks No. 2 this season with a time of 1:00.29 that she ran at the Bengal Invitational. Freshman phenom Josie Settle also holds a top-10 mark in the event this year, sitting in 8th place in the Big Sky with a time of 14.12 seconds.

On the men's side, Zachary Cox is lighting up the 110mH and the 400mH this season. Cox ranks 5th in the 110mH with a time of 14.20 seconds that he ran at the Weber State Spring Classic. Alex Conner is right behind him in 9th place in the standings with a time of 14.76 seconds from the Beach Invitational.

In the 400mH, Cox holds the 4th best mark of the year with a time of 53.53 seconds. Cox is followed by Nicklas Uth who ranks No. 10 currently with a seasons-best time of 54.41 seconds from the Bengal Invitational.

On the distance side, the Bengals have a pair of top-10 runners in the 10k who are ready to go toe-to-toe with the best distance runners in the country this weekend. In the men's 10K, Seth Babbel ran the 5th best mark in the conference this season at the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational, crossing the line in 29:46.75.

On the women's side, Cassandra Vazquez is looking to make her mark. Vasquez has the 4th best 10K mark in the Big Sky this season, crossing the line in 34:55.90 also at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

In steeplechase action, Bengal senior runner, Madi Kenyon holds the 6th-best time in the Big Sky this season at 10:34.62.

The ISU high jumpers are ready to continue holding their place as some of the best in the conference.

On the men's side, Ethan Garrett and Anthony Garcia are both tied for 4th place in the standings with heights of 1.96m (6-5) each.

On the women's squad, Josie Settle and Kapri Sylvester are both holding down top-10 marks with Settle in third at 1.69m (5-6.5) and Sylvester in 7th at 1.68m (5-6).

The Bengal women's pole vaulters hold three of the top-4 spots in the Big Sky. Brielle Davis leads in 2nd place with a mark of 4.07m (13-4.25). Lindsey Jones Sagendorf and Elliotte Stockham are tied for 4th with vaults of 3.97m (13-0.25).

The Bengal men's shotputters have two of the top-10 marks in the Big Sky this season. Jay Wadley leads the Orange and black with a 5th-place throw of 16.72m (54-10.25). Ryan Spaeth follows in 8th with a season-best mark of 16.42m (53-10.5).

Axel Tirado-Sanchez leads the Big Sky in the discus this season. At the Pacific Coast Invitational, the Bengal Junior heaved the disc, 56.25m (184-6) two feet further than the 2nd place thrower from Montana State.

 On the women's side, the Bengals are holding down two top-10 marks In the discus, Katelyn Dickemore sits in 4th place with a season's best throw of 48.05 (157-8) she is followed closely by Zoie Kessinger 46.21 (151-7)

Sarah Wilensky is ready to fight for the Hammer Throw Championship. Wilensky ranks No. 2 in the Big Sky This season with a throw of 57.92m (190-0) at the Aggie Invitational

In the final throws event, Katelyn Dickemore is 3rd in the conference in the Javelin with a throw of 45.76m (150-1) that she recorded at the UVU Collegiate Invitational.

The meet starts on Wednesday with the multi-events. Josie Settle is set to make a run for a title currently holding down the No. 2 spot in the Big Sky with a score of 4924 points that she recorded at the Klein/Nwaba Combined events.
